Scots DIY mum gives rusty garden swing seat fairytale makeover using bargain buys

A Scottish mum transformed an old and rusty garden swing using simple DIY tricks for just £80.

Paula Bradley, 36, turned her sister's "dull" garden furniture into something out of a fairytale by adorning it with lights and artificial flowers she found in bargain stores.

The mum-of-one, from Motherwell, used spray paint, sparkly cushions and fake ivy to give the swing seat a makeover.

She told the Record: "My sister inherited the swing with her new house and it was in great condition, just a little dull.

"I love doing transformations on things and through lockdown I revamped my kitchen.

"So she asked me would I do something with it to jazz it up a bit. She has real ivy in her garden so I loved the idea of tying that in, using artificial ivy and flowers.

"Then I bought the solar lights to make it cozy. I have a set of those in my own garden and I knew how nice they were."

Paula said she sanded off the rust on the frame and sprayed it using two £20 tins of Rust-Olem Garden furniture spray paint in the shade Hessian before leaving it to dry for a couple of days.

She then bought two packs of £4.99 solar lights from Home Bargains which she secured with cable ties from Amazon.

The artificial ivy was £10.99 for a pack of 6, while the flowers were £11 for two packs from Amazon.

The larger roses from Home bargains £2.99 which Paula fastened to the frame.

She said: "The cushion covers were £8.99 from Amazon.

"The bulb solar lights are plastic and attach with a little clip. They were 99p each from Home Bargains.

"So all in it cost £80 and it looks so pretty".
