Scots designer behind country's 2022 Commonwealth Games outfits scoops fashion gongs

The designer behind Team Scotland’s 2022 Commonwealth Games outfits has won three top fashion awards for her work.

Siobhan Mackenzie, who created the tartan uniform worn by athletes at last year’s opening ceremony in Birmingham, scooped three gongs at the 16th International Design Awards (IDA) earlier this month.

The 29-year-old, from the Black Isle in the Highlands, has received worldwide recognition after receiving honours in the IDA fashion and sustainable fashion categories.

Siobhan was awarded gold for her design and the tartan of the Team Scotland outfits.

She was also honoured for her pure silk collection, Repurpose, which is made out of leftover scraps of fabric she has gathered over the past decade. She said: “I was up against incredible international talent so it’s very humbling to have won.

“It’s exciting to have my work at the Commonwealth Games recognised because I put so much time and passion into these designs.”

Siobhan studied fashion design and production at Glasgow’s Kelvin College and launched her self-named label in 2014.
