Scots dad to boycott Holiday Inn after stay with 'rats and bugs'

A Scots dad said he will never return to a Hull hotel after claiming he spotted a rat from the window of his room and found insects in his bathroom.

Danny Fuller booked into Holiday Inn Hull Marina on August 5 after having stayed there several times before.

The 35-year-old, from near Edinburgh , was visiting Hull with his pregnant partner Shauner Proctor, 19, and their six-month-old daughter.

He claims they were forced to move rooms after discovering “beasties in the bath”.

Danny is adamant he found silverfish on Monday night in the bathroom of his executive room at the hotel and, a day later, was left disgusted after allegedly seeing a rat from his hotel room.

The hotel says the rat was not on its property and housekeeping teams say they found no bugs in Danny’s room but his experience prompted him to cut short his two-night stay, with the family eventually booking into another hotel in Leeds.

Danny said: “I’ve stayed in this hotel five times before and it really has gone downhill. The silverfish were in the bathroom on the floor and on the windowsill and this was in an executive room.

“You pay a premium price and it’s supposed to be more luxurious. This is the fourth time in 12 months I’ve stayed here and it’s never been bad but it has really deteriorated.

“We didn’t get there until 10.15pm on Monday night and by the time we’d changed rooms from executive to standard it had gone midnight.”

Danny was happy to move rooms and was later convinced to stay another night at the hotel on Tuesday, August 6.

However, after seeing a rat from the window of his room he decided to leave over concerns for the safety of his partner and their young child.

“We won’t come back after this,” Danny said. “We were debating all afternoon whether or not to stay and I wanted to go but the rat was the last straw for us.

“My partner is pregnant and my daughter was sleeping in a travel cot and because there were rats running around I decided we would find somewhere else to stay.

“Holiday Inn is brilliant but this hotel really let us down.”

Danny has since posted a negative review of his experience at the hotel on the Holiday Inn Hull Marina Facebook page.

In it he details the bugs and rats he allegedly found and criticises hotel staff for “pressuring” him over an £11 payment he needed to make.

The hotel staff said they contacted Danny because his card declined multiple times and the hotel has confirmed Danny has been refunded for both nights.

He says he paid £90 for his initial stay on Monday before using loyalty points accrued as an InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) Rewards Club member to pay for his stay on Tuesday night.

A spokeswoman for Holiday Inn Hull Marina said: “We are sorry Mr Fuller was not satisfied whilst staying with us.

"We can confirm he has now been refunded in full for his two-night stay.”
