Scots dad scoops massive prize in People's Postcode Lottery

A Scots Elvis die-hard has Got a Lot o' Livin' to Do after he and his family won more than £200,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery.

John Boyle, 64, wife Marilyn, 71, stepson Francis, 51 and daughter Joanne, 41 each bagged £58,823 in the competition's Millionaire Street prize. The dad, from Cowcaddens, Glasgow, is planning on splashing out on a dream trip to Graceland with his share of the prize to make some new Memories.

There's no word on where he'll stay in the States, but it won't be Heartbreak Hotel. And as reported by Glasgow Live, he's no Poor Boy now: he also plans on doing up the home he shares with his family in Manchester.

Taxi driver John said: "My favourite Elvis song is The Wonder Of You, but I'm All Shook Up now. I never expected to win the big one, but I'm glad that we did.

"I never had this sort of money before. It gives you a sense of being able to do what you want to do...a sense of freedom."

Fran, Jo, Marilyn and John Boyle won a combined £235k (People's Postcode Lottery)

Dad-of-two John moved to Manchester 50-years-ago where he met Marilyn, to whom he has now been married to for 44 years. He's also stepdad to three children from her first marriage, including Francis, and has daughters of his own Joanne and Kirsty, 38.

However, he still returns to Glasgow regularly to visit family including his mum. And he's plotting a return to Graceland, Elvis' famed retreat, a decade after he visited it with his brother Eddie.

He added: "We went before an anniversary when there was a candlelit vigil at Graceland. You had to queue to get in through Graceland holding your candle. It was so long, it took about five hours."

Hotel duty manager Joanne persuaded her parents and brother to sign up to the Postcode Lottery after she had done so herself. She has been Playing For Keeps for ten years without a big win – until now.

She said: "I told everyone else to play the Postcode Lottery because I thought it was a good thing to do. [The win will] definitely take the pressure off."

John and Marilyn were on a short break in Blackpool and in the middle of eating a burger in the car when their phones started to ring. The family were delighted to find out they were sharing the prize with 11 of their neighbours – and were handed their prizes earlier this week in a ceremony in their street.

John said: "I feels good to be winning with some of our neighbours. It's a good street and everyone gets on. It's also great that the charities are getting something out of it."

The family, of Prestwich, Greater Manchester, were among 15 neighbours to share in the £1 million prize after their M25 2QL postcode came up. Every ticket scooped £58,823, but some players had signed up for two meaning they doubled their prize money.
