Scots dad on Loch Lomond drive 'disgusted' at tons of fly-tipping in countryside

Feckless fly tippers have been slammed for turning a Scots motorway slip road into a rubbish-strewn wasteland.

Driver Gary Sands was shocked to find piles of broken fridges, stained mattresses and worn tyres on the St James cut off near Glasgow Airport on Monday.

The father-of-two captured footage of the grim scene on his mobile phone in a bid to shame those responsible.

Gary, 30, from Cumbernauld, said: “To say I’m disgusted with what I saw, would be an understatement. Fair enough, councils closed the tips but it’s not fair to do that.”

Photographer Gary was on a day out to Loch Lomond with wife Emily, 29, three-year-old daughter Libby and week-old new arrival Henry.

He said: “We were on our way to Loch Lomond and the wee man started to stir and was ready for his bottle.

“We headed for the car park and as we came around the corner we started to see rubbish and I thought this is a bit of a mess but then we got to the underpass and it got worse and worse."

There was so much abandoned waste, footage shows Gary having to slowly weave his car through the heaps.

He added: “I thought surely loads of people aren't dumping stuff here but you could see individual piles so it looks like companies who’ve been paid to take stuff away.

“There were household appliances, kids’ toys, garden waste, mattresses tyres, you name it. It was just mad.”

Gary headed down the slip road as the family use the long-stay airport car park at the end of the road when heading on holiday.

He added: “The car park has clearly not been in use due to lockdown but in that time people seem to have just decided to use this road as a dumping ground.

“I honestly hope anyone who has dumped any of this crap here sees this and feels some sort of embarrassment.”
