Scots dad and son dead in murder-suicide as tributes paid to 'trailblazer' teen

A teenager believed to have been murdered by his dad was a gifted athlete looking forward to studying law next year.

Tributes poured in for Tony Thomas, 16, after friends and his local kayak club heard the devastating news.

A statement from the club described him as a “trailblazer”.

And a friend said: “What a positive impact Tony had upon so many lives.”

It’s believed Tony was killed by dad Seweryn, 40, who then took his own life at their home in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Paramedics were called to the family home in Grainger Road shortly after 4pm on December 23 but the two men could not be saved.

Detectives confirmed that following post mortems they have launched a murder investigation.

A police source said: “It would appear that Tony’s father killed him then took his own life. It is really heartbreaking and tragic and nobody knows what it was all about.

“There was no indication prior to this of any problem.

“The mum, Eve, had just celebrated her birthday the day before and for her to lose her son days before Christmas is especially heartbreaking.”

Seweryn is believed to have run his own joinery business.

Originally from Poland, it understood he had lived in Glasgow with Eve and their son for more than a decade.

Tony was superfit and a leading member of his local kayak club.

A statement from Glasgow Kayak Club Sprint and Marathon Team said: “Thank you for being a part of the GKC family. You were the first member, the big brother, the trailblazer.

“While we’re no longer fortunate enough to paddle next to you, the memories you have given us will stay with us forever.

“What is sadness today will be pride tomorrow, as we smile and remember our friend Tony.”

Another friend wrote: “What a positive impact Tony had upon so many lives as he developed from a boy to a young man.

“Gentle in nature, motivated, smiling and always a great ambassador for Scottish Sprint paddling.”

Another member of the club said: “What a lovely young lad, sending love to Eve and all affected by this terrible loss. Rest in peace, Tony.”

A police spokesman said: “A 16-year-old male youth and 40-year-old man were found dead within a house in Grainger Road, Bishopbriggs.

“Post mortems have taken place and police have launched a murder investigation.”
