Scots cyclist killed in horror Christmas Day crash with car as cops launch probe

A Scots cyclist has tragically died after being knocked down by a car during a ride out on Christmas Day.

The 30-year-old was cycling on the A6105 between Chirnside and Duns in the Scottish Borders when a blue Ford Focus collided with him.

Emergency services raced to the scene at around 10.50am but the young man was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

The road was locked down by police for several hours to allow for a full accident investigation to take place.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Mark Banner from the Scottish Borders Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident

“We are asking anyone who was on the A6105 on Christmas Day morning and witnessed what happened, or who may have dash-cam footage to assist with the investigation, to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0841 of Friday, 25 December, 2020.”
