Scots cyclist, 35, dies after coming off bike on Aberdeenshire road

A 35-year-old man has died while out cycling in Aberdeenshire on Sunday.

Emergency services raced to the B9126, Kirkton of Skene, around 2.40pm yesterday after a cyclist came off his bike and onto the side of the road.

Members of the public came to the man's aid and paramedics rushed to the scene but the man sadly could not be saved.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed.

Police are now keen to trace the driver of a dark coloured 4 x 4 vehicle which was travelling north at the time of the incident.

Officers are also urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to get in touch.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Inspector Lorraine Mackie, North East Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish why the man came off his bike and so we are keen to speak to anyone who may have been on that road between 2pm and 3pm yesterday and who may have information or dash cam footage.

"In particular, we are keen to trace the driver of a dark coloured 4 x 4 vehicle which was travelling north at the time as their information may be of assistance to our investigation."

Details can be passed to Police Scotland via 101 quoting reference number 2053 of 12 September, 2021. yesterday.
