Scots crowd go so mad for Britpop classics they leave Damon Albarn in a Blur

Blur frontman Damon Albarn hailed his Scots crowd as gig goers went mad for some of his biggest hits.

The Gorillaz singer played two shows at Glasgow venue St Luke's on Monday, as part of the tour to support his new solo album.

The Special Piano Tour sees him playing piano and singing alongside a number of violinists, performing both songs from his past and new numbers from latest release The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows.

He played a number of Blur songs towards the end of his short set, including UK number one single Beetlebum, number two Tender, and cult hits The Universal, For Tomorrow and Girls & Boys.

And fans went so wild during the renditions of the Britpop classics that the 53-year-old was left unable to see properly.

He laughed, took off his glasses and told the crowd: "My glasses are steaming up."

And he heaped praise on his Scottish fans, who joined in with singing on the classics, saying: "Do the la la la bit again. That was lovely.

"That's some fine voices for a Monday."

And one fan had the crowd in stitches when he replied: "You should play that again - that was excellent."

In 2014 he was nominated for the Mercury Prize Album of the Year for his debut solo album Everyday Robots, and he received nominations for Best Producer at the 2013 Brit Awards and Best Male Solo Artist at the 2015 Brits.

He also won 43 awards as part of Blur and a further 26 awards with Gorillaz.
