A couple whose baby's death is to be investigated by a sheriff have thanked supporters after they raised £5,000 to pay for legal advice. Eckhardt and Rozelle Bosch were left devastated when their daughter Mira-Belle died on the day she was born.
Her tragic death is to be examined on the orders of Dorothy Bain QC, the Lord Advocate. She said Mira-belle and two other infants, Leo Lamont and Ellie McCormick, all died "in circumstances giving rise to serious public concern".
A fatal accident inquiry at Hamilton Sheriff Court is expected to hear health officials and families give details about Mira-Belle, who was born on July 2 last year, and Leo and Ellie, who were born in February and March 2019.
The Bosch family told of their heartache in an appeal to help them afford lawyers at the probe. Mr Bosch has now updated well-wishers and thanked them for helping their appeal.
He said: "I am pleased to say that we have reached our target. Thank you for all the donations. We are overwhelmed with the support. We have been advised not to give any further public updates regarding the case. This is understandable, in light of the complexity and sensitivity of the matter.
"However, please keep praying for God's involvement during the next couple of months. With hearts of gratitude, Eckhardt and Rozelle."
An earlier message said: "As part of the process, we will have to bring before the court the traumatic circumstances surrounding her birth and death. Because it is so important that Mira-Belle's case be heard in public, we have been advised to have a legal representative state our case.
"With an estimated cost of £300 per hour, we are aiming to raise £5000 so as to provide representation equal to 16 hours in court. Having a solicitor will be an incredible emotional support as well as providing the necessary expertise to constructively aid the inquiry."
A notice announcing the inquiry said: "The Lord Advocate having considered that the deaths of Leo Lamont, Ellie McCormick, and Mira-Belle Bosch, occurred in circumstances giving rise to serious public concern and that it is in the public interest for a public inquiry to be held into the circumstances of the death."
Health bosses at NHS Lanarkshire confirmed they are aware of the probe but declined to comment further. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said they anticipate being involved.
A Crown Office spokesman said: "The decision to hold a fatal accident inquiry has been communicated to the families, who have experienced terrible losses. The Crown will continue to keep the families fully informed and answer any questions they may have about the process in the run up to and during the Inquiry."
A preliminary hearing has been set for September 5.
