A Scots couple have won “a life-changing amount of money” on Danny Dyer’s The Wall.
John Dundas, 28 and Gemma Stanfield, 21, from Hamilton, who are getting married next year, will rack up the fortune in tomorrow night’s BBC1 show.
Business development manager John was so convinced they’d lost, he burst into tears at the result.
He said: “I struggled in the isolation part of the game, so when Gemma said how much we had won, the shock just took over.”
Gemma, a banking consultant, said: “We are just ordinary people with ordinary jobs so to win anything would have meant the world to us but to win big is unbelievable.
“It will change our lives and make things easier going into married life.”
Although they filmed the show in August last year, they haven’t told anyone how much they win – and can’t wait for Gemma’s gran Lilias McVie, 79, to find out, as to her a “tenner is a lot of money”.
Gemma said: “She will be so emotional when she watches the episode – I cannot wait to see her face.”
Now, the plan is to have a “wedding to remember” next year to treat their family and friends after months of lockdowns.
The couple, who have two dogs, have been together since 2018 and got engaged last August, a week before filming the show.
The Wall sees couples answer questions as balls drop into slots offering different amounts of cash.
After John only got two out of six questions right, Gemma went on and won a huge amount of money – a UK show version record.
She said: “I can’t believe I’ve made it into The Wall’s history books. We haven’t told anyone how much we have won as we want them to be surprised.”
