Scots couple pen brilliant lockdown life song inspired by Billy Connolly's Divorce hit

A Scots couple have created a hilarious musical tribute to their life in lockdown - inspired by Billy Connolly.

Martin Borland and finance Kirsty Chalmers, who have both been put on furlough leave, were discussing the Big Yin's hit Divorce when inspiration struck.

In the track, the Glasgow funnyman spells out various words while telling the tale of a man's marriage breaking up.

Now the couple have posted their own song detailing their lives with the coronvirus quarantine.

And the video, which was posted on Friday, has gone viral picking up more than 100,000 views.

The pair, from Edinburgh, got engaged the day before the nationwide lockdown kicked in and were looking for a way to show family and friends what they were up to.

29-year-old Kirsty, who works in marketing, said: "We have been watching a lot of Tik Tok videos but we wanted to make something a bit more original.

"We were sat on the sofa talking about Billy Connolly and how good that song Divorce is where he spells out the words - and then we thought that he says "quarantine" in that.

"We never expected this reaction- we thought we would make a video to give some of our friends and family a wee laugh but it now has more than 100,000 views."

In the song Martin strums his guitar and tells of the pair's life - including clapping for the NHS, longing for the pub, quiz nights, watching the daily news conferences and Joe Wicks PE lessons.

Head brewer Martin, 28, said: "It is really just about all the things we've been getting up to during the lockdown.

"I used to play in a band but we haven't played together for years. I thought I'd pick up the guitar and maybe put this together.

"I think it has cheered folk up and that's what it's all about really."

Kirsty added: "We got engaged the day before lockdown so we haven't really got to see anyone since.

"It's nice to let people know what we've been up to."

The video has more than 300 comments from delighted punters.

Martin's dad Bobby wrote: "Aw Jeez! Yer Maw and I are peeing ourselves laughing. Brilliant."
