Scots couple kept apart by coronavirus for a year finally tie the knot

A couple who were kept apart for nearly a year due to Covid have finally tied the knot.

William Logan has been stuck in Aberdeen while fiancee Lani Barry was in North Carolina in her native America.

But they were finally reunited at their wedding with a little help from friends.

Guests gather at The Bothy (UGC)

The ceremony was only able to go ahead thanks to a big-hearted manager at the Bothy in Glasgow’s West End.

William’s relieved mum Jane said: “As it was impossible for almost all of Lani’s family to come, William and Lani planned a small ceremony at The Bothy, with me and my husband Niall, Lani’s parents Grace and Phil, who came over from Georgia to quarantine for two weeks.

“Then Glasgow went into tier-four lockdown five days before the ceremony and the Bothy had to shut.

“As Lani was here on a time-limited visa, there was no question of postponing the ceremony, so, 24 hours before the wedding, it was the Bothy to the rescue.

“One of the managers, Jamie, agreed to come in specially and open up for the ceremony.”

Engineering student William, 31, met data manager Lani, 28, in Aberdeen five years ago.

Since then, the couple have continued their relationship by taking turns at travelling 3500 miles between Aberdeen and North Carolina on a regular basis.

A spokesman for The Bothy said: “After 50 weeks apart and at the third attempt, they finally tied the knot.

“There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
