Scots couple build giant 6ft igloo in front garden after Storm Darcy brings blizzards

A Scots couple have taken to their front garden to build an incredible six foot igloo following Storm Darcy blizzards.

Barry Forrest and Susan Morrison decided to embrace the snowy conditions in Kirkcaldy by throwing on the thermals and embarking on the ambitious project.

It's the third igloo that Barry, 36, has built since purchasing a nifty 'icebox' tool from Canada several years ago.

The couple completed the project last night (Daily Record)

The igloo maker costs about £250 and works by creating compressed ice blocks.

Barry told the Record: "Me and my girlfriend decided we'll go play in the snow and make an igloo so we started it last night.

"It's a tool I got a long time ago, it's called an 'icebox igloo maker' and it comes all the way from Canada.

Barry and Susan started the two-and-a-half hour project in the garden on Tuesday night (Daily Record)

"A guy who makes igloos in Canada made a contraption to help build them and I bought one when I was a lot younger. It's been great."

Barry and Susan started their two-and-a-half hour project in the garden on Tuesday night.

Once completed the pair plan to sit in their igloo with a log burner tonight and, quite literally, chill out.

Barry said: "This is the biggest igloo we've made, it's six foot.

"We've got a camp and log burner stove to put in there and we're planning on sitting in it again tonight, if the kids don't get there first and jump all over it.

"It gets quite warm in there once it's done.

"You need a trough in the middle so all the cold air goes through there and if you heat a candle in it stays pretty warm.

"It's not hot enough for you to strip off and sit there in your pants, but it gets pretty warm - enough to take the hypothermia off you anyway."
