Scots cops stop cars in bid to find Alexander McMillan one week on from disappearance

Police have been stopping local motorists as they try to track down missing man Alexander McMillan more than one week on from when he was last seen.

Alexander was spotted on a CCTV camera at around midnight between Monday April 25 and Tuesday April 26 on Manse Road, Kilsyth, near to its junction with Howe Road.

Officers describe the 46-year-old as white, around 6ft 1in, with receding hair and a large bushy beard.

At the time he was captured on camera in Kilsyth he was wearing a navy hooded jumper, a baseball cap, grey trousers or jogging bottoms and dark coloured Adidas Gazelle trainers.

He was carrying two rucksacks: one white and grey with a Timberland logo, and the other decorated with blue, white and grey stripes.

He was also carrying a fishing rod in a carry case - and hasn't been seen since, leaving family and friends "increasingly concerned".

One week on from Alexander's disappearance, police have been speaking to locals in the Lanarkshire town in a bid to jog their memories.

Officers stopped six pedestrians and 52 cars travelling through the area between 11.30pm on Monday May 2 and 1.30am on Tuesday May 3.

Cops are understood to have hoped the journeys were routine and that those stopped might have seen Alexander at the same time last week.

Inspector Susan Rae, of Cumbernauld Police Station, said: “It has now been a week since Alexander was last seen and since then he has not made any contact with family or friends.

"As time passes we are becoming increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and safety.

“Since Alexander was reported missing, extensive searches and enquiries have been carried out throughout the Kilsyth area.

"These searches are ongoing and we continue to appeal to the public to assist with our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone who has seen Alexander since Tuesday, 26 April, or who has any information that may be relevant to our investigation to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1579 of Wednesday, 27 April.
