Scots cops self-isolate after coronavirus cases confirmed at Edinburgh police station

More than a dozen police officers are self-isolating after two colleagues tested positive at an Edinburgh police station.

The confirmed cases were found at the policing hub in Drylaw with up to 16 colleagues being told to self-isolate by contact tracers.

It is understood that cops at the station are now being encouraged to wear masks at all times, except for those with health conditions which make them exempt.

NHS Lothian previously confirmed that a “small number” of people had tested positive for the bug and that “necessary guidance and advice” had been provided.

Earlier this week, we told how several officers at Wishaw Police Station were also self-isolating after being linked to confirmed cases.

NHS Lanarkshire confirmed they had begun contact tracing after “a small number” of officers caught the bug.

The health chiefs reminded anyone who develops symptoms - a new continuous cough, temperature and/or loss of taste and smell - to book a test and self isolate.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland is following Scottish Government and health guidance and where cases of coronavirus are identified, we work with the local health board and adhere to Test and Protect procedures."
