Scots cops probe high-value thefts as locals urged to watch for transit vans and Audi A3

Police have asked members of the public to keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles as they continue their enquiries are continuing into a series of high-value break-ins earlier this month.

Officers have received nine reports of housebreaking at addresses in Dundee, Perth, Forfar, Bankfoot, Carnoustie and Arbroath between Saturday December 4 and Monday December 13.

On each occasion a group of men broke into the homes and stole significant quantities of valuable items including jewellery and cash.

Investigators are treating the incidents as linked.

The spate of robberies has alarmed local police to the extent that they have established a dedicated enquiry team to continue to investigate the thefts while the burglars remain at large.

While the perpetrators are yet to be caught, Police Scotland has sought to reassure victims and others in the areas affected that finding them remains a priority.

They have also asked locals to watch out for Transit vans and a silver Audi A3 Touring estate car, which they believe have been used by the thieves while swiping valuables.

Detective Inspector Simon Murray said: “I’d like to reassure our communities that these break-ins are being thoroughly investigated and we continue to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

"Local officers have been carrying out dedicated patrols throughout the affected areas.

"If you believe you have any information or witnessed anything suspicious, for example vehicles, possibly Transit vans or a silver Audi A3 Touring about the area without purpose, then please speak to police.

"Any detail, no matter how small, could help with our investigation.

"Likewise, if you have private CCTV or dash-cam footage that shows anything suspicious, that could also assist with our enquiries.”

Properties have been targeted in Innewan Gardens, Bankfoot, Perth as well as multiple addresses in Dundee, including Clayhills Drive, William Fitzgerald Way and Newhall Gardens.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101. Alternatively, a call can be made anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
