Vile IRA graffiti daubed on Orange hall as Scots cops hunt yobs

Cops are hunting yobs who sprayed Irish Republican slogans on an Orange hall in an attack dubbed an “anti-Protestant hate crime”.

The vandals painted ‘Provos’ and ‘IRA’ in the shape of a cross on the side of the Rutherglen Orange and Purple District hall on Saturday night, January 23.

Officers from Police Scotland have launched a probe after members said it was the second time their venue had been attacked by “scum” in less than a fortnight.

Jim McHarg, Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, said: “I am disappointed and frustrated that yet again this hall as been attacked in around 10 days.

"It is simply an anti-Protestant hate crime.

“There is no reason for anyone to do this other than to continue their own hate filled agenda. We are supposed to be in lockdown and not be going out yet these idiots have found the need to do this.

“They continue to target hate against the Orange Order and the Protestant community.”

The Rutherglen Orange and Purple District 20 Lodge posted images of the vandalism on social media.

They wrote: “Most of you already know the hall was vandalised once again last night only 10 days after the last time.

“What you don’t know, or the scum who carried out the attack, is we have CCTV images this time. Also there was some personal property found outside as well. This has all been passed on to the police.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm we have received a report regarding vandalism at premises on Cathcart Road in Rutherglen.

"Enquires are ongoing.”
