Scots cop hospitalised after being injured during ‘disturbance’ as man appears in court

A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting a police officer to their 'injury and danger of life' during an incident at a house in Argyll and Bute.

Officers were called to reports of an alleged disturbance within a property in Cowal Place, Dunoon, at around 11am on Saturday, February 20.

One policeman was injured after arriving on scene before being rushed to hospital for treatment.

His injuries were found to be minor and he has since been released.

Stuart Maxwell was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged disturbance before appearing at Dunoon Sheriff Court on Monday.

He faces a string of charges including assault to injury and danger of life, possession of an offensive weapon, three counts of threatening or abusive behaviour, four assaults, culpable and reckless conduct and resisting arrest.

The 32-year-old made no plea and was remanded in custody.

He is due to reappear within eight days.

Police Scotland confirmed a man had been arrested following the incident and alleged assault, which was initially treated as attempted murder.

A force spokeswoman said: “Around 11.05am on Saturday, 20 February, police were called to an address in Cowal Place, Dunoon, following a report of a man causing a disturbance within.

“One officer was injured and he was taken to Dunoon Community Hospital and later released without treatment.

“A 32 year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a number of offences including attempted murder, police assault and resisting arrest.

“He is due before Dunoon Sheriff Court on Monday, 22 February, 2021.

"A full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
