Scots commuters face chaos on trains after overhead wire comes down at Edinburgh Haymarket station

Rush hour commuters across Scotland are facing ‘major delays’ after an overhead wire has come down at an Edinburgh train station.

Network Rail were alerted to the issue at Haymarket Station at around 4pm which has left trains unable to use one platform due to ‘safety reasons’.

The incident is causing major issues for commuters in Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow and Aberdeen .

Engineers at Network Rail are currently on the scene attempting to the repair the damage caused to the overhead wire.

Alternative transport has been arranged for customers being affected by commuter chaos on the lines.

A spokesperson for ScotRail said: “If you are travelling between Glasgow and Cumbernauld, we’ve arranged First Glasgow to accept valid rail tickets on these routes: X3, 8, 38, 41, 60 and 60A.

“We’ve arranged extended ticket acceptance on First Glasgow buses out to Falkirk now. You can use valid rail tickets and Smartcards on these bus routes between Glasgow, Cumbernauld and Falkirk : X3, 8, 38, 41, 60 and 60A.

“We’ve got two replacement buses on the way to Falkirk Grahamston, these are operating by Ace Travel.”
