Scots commentator Derek Rae shuts down raging England fan during Twitter exchange

A Scots sports broadcaster had the perfect retort for a critic of his football commentary - he was at home watching a different game.

Presenter for US cable channel ESPN, Derek Rae, was clearly stunned to be called out in a tweet by a fan for comments about young England wingback Reece James during England's loss to Denmark in the Nations League last night.

Raging viewer Andrew tweeted: "Derek Rae slandering Reece James in this match is absolutely egregious. ESPN pundits are so s**t.”

But Aberdeen FC commentator and Berwick Rangers ambassador Rae had the perfect comeback as he soaked up the Tartan Army’s win over the Czech Republic from the comfort of his sofa.

He replied: “Hi, Andrew. I’m at home watching Scotland :-).”

And the later added: "To be fair to Andrew above, it’s not the first time someone has chastised me for a commentary I didn’t carry out :-)

“Conversely there will have been times when someone else was on the receiving end of a viewer’s ire for my comments on air. Have a good one, wherever you are.”

Derek's initial tweeted racked up more than 3,700 likes on the social media platform as fans pointed out Andrew's mistake.

Happily, the pair made up in the end with no hard feelings as red-faced Andrew made a grovelling apology.

He tweeted: “I AM SO SORRY OH MY GOD I'M BLUSHING.”

England were beaten 1-0 by Denmark at Wembley in the Nations League. The defeat leaves England sitting second bottom of their group.

Harry Maguire and Reece James were both sent off for the home side as they slipped up against the 16th best team in the world.
