A big-hearted comedy star has stepped in to help a dying young girl who was abused by sick online trolls.
Gary Faulds, himself a target of cyber bullies, will hold a benefit gig for Kiara Buonomo, seven, who has fought a brain tumour for more than a year and only has months to live.
The comic, who has five kids of his own, said: “I read about people trolling Kiara and reached out to the family. It makes you wonder how low some people can go.
“I get trolled and struggle with it at times but for it to happen to a wee girl who has a fight like that in front of her is unthinkable.
"She might not see the abuse herself but I can only imagine the pain the family go through when they see vile stuff like that."
The Daily Record revealed this month that Kiara’s family were having to deal with grossly offensive social media messages mocking her.
Her mum Natasha Kinlan, 30, of Springburn, Glasgow , complained to police and spoke out in a bid to help catch the abuser.
She said: “It’s sickened us. We have enough to think about without the extra stress of this.”
Gary said: “I thought it was time to use the small influence I have to back up this wee girl. It makes me proud to be part of her fundraising efforts.
“My team and I will put on a gig for her on April 28 at the Glee Comedy Club in Glasgow. I will give my whole fee to her family so that they can make her life a bit more comfortable.”
Gary, of Glasgow, has spoken out courageously about his own mental health, and revealed in January that online bullies had subjected him to “pure hate”.
He said: “I have spent the last few days in a downer because weapons feel it’s OK to be negative towards me. It puts me in a dark place with my mental health. ‘Fat c***’, ‘Look at the state of his house’, ‘Hope ye die’ – that’s just a couple I’ve had to delete this week.”
Rangers FC have also sent Kiara their support after charity the Les Hoey Dreammaker Foundation told them she was a massive fan of the team.
We told yesterday how striker Alfredo Morelos wrote to the youngster and told her: “Stay strong. Keep fighting!”
Natasha said: “We are hoping to take her to the stadium when she is well enough.”
A fundraising page for Kiara has collected more than £1700.
