Scots comedian Janey Godley to host virtual Dumfries' Big Burns Supper

The 10th edition of Dumfries’ Big Burns Supper will be a virtual celebration in January because of the pandemic.

Organisers have announced that comedian Janey Godley will host the special online free Burns Night Special.

Executive producer, Graham Main, said: “It doesn’t matter where you are on Burns Night, tune in online and raise a glass to the world for Auld Lang Syne.

“We started the festival 10 years ago because we thought Burns Night had the potential to grow, and this free show is our thanks to the community, artists and audiences who have supported us to do just that over the last 10 years.”

The show will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube from 7pm to 8.15pm on January 25.

KT Tunstall, Donovan, Tide Lines, Dougie Maclean, Robert Softly and Amy Conachan have been confirmed for exclusive performances and unique reflections on Burns’ work.

It will feature a mix of musicians, comedians, actors, aerialists and historians from across the world.

Dumfries singer Grant Dinwoodie is recording a special edition of a Robert Burns song in a secret location somewhere near Dumfries for the event.

The broadcast will include a bit of Le Haggis with acts past and present including comedian Ray Bradshaw, Jamaican World Roots Reggae singer Brina, and burlesque starlet, Vicky Butterfly, with the promise of “a few guaranteed surprises on the night.”
