Scots comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli fined for driving without a licence

Scottish comedian and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant Hardeep Singh Kohli was today fined £180 for driving without a licence.

The comic originally claimed he did not realise his licence had been revoked by an "over zealous doctor" when he complained of pins and needles in one of his feet.

The 50-year-old admitted driving in Glasgow ’s West Nile Street in April last year.

His licence had been revoked in October 2017.

Today, Sheriff Linda Ruxton fined Kohli reduced the fine from £200 due to his guilty plea in March this year at Glasgow Sheriff Court .

Three penalty points were also added to Kohli’s licence.

The court heard Kohli had experienced tingling in his foot and consulted a doctor to find out what was wrong.

The doctor then wrote to the DVLA about his problem which meant his licence was cancelled.

Garvey McArdle, defending, said: “The doctor was zealous in her approach and she told the DVLA that it led to numbness - he didn’t know she wrote to them.”

When a letter arrived at Kohli’s Edinburgh address he originally believed it was about his father’s health.

Later he consulted a different doctor.

Mr McArdle added: “This doctor said that they would rectify the situation as there was nothing wrong with his foot.

“The GP said it would be sorted and Mr Kohli tells me matters are in place to have his licence back.”

Despite many hearings over several months, the matter wasn't resolved by any of the doctors.

Sheriff Ruxton today told Kohli: “Your attitude was a bit casual as it was your duty to find out what the problem is.

“You took a risk with driving and you pleaded guilty to that.”
