Scots clothing label launched in memory of lost friend supported by football stars

Scottish football stars are backing a fashion designer’s clothing label launched in memory of a lost pal.

Joseph McCabe has dedicated his B-Heard venture to Liam Gildea, who took his own life during lockdown.

Footballers such as St Mirren’s Jake Doyle-Hayes; Thomas O’Ware and Gary Harkins, of Partick Thistle; and Greenock Morton players Lewis Strapp and Luca Colville have worn clothing from the B-Heard brand, which will help raise funds for mental health causes.

Dad-of-two Joseph, 35, of Carntyne in Glasgow, was devastated when Liam, 29, died in April. He said: “Liam would be so proud of this.

"He was a good-looking guy, a great laugh and very outgoing, so he’d probably have wanted to be one of the models.

“I was the last person to speak to him. I knew he was suffering but didn’t know how bad it had got.

“Covid has made it a bleak time for everyone so hopefully we can reinforce the message through the label – that no-one is alone and there is help there if people are struggling.”

Ex-Royal Logistic Corps private Joseph worked with Liam at a slabbing and groundwork firm.

Joseph had always wanted to launch a clothing label and said he wants B-Heard to raise awareness of mental health issues.

He has pledged to donate 10 per cent of each sale to Glasgow Association for Mental Health.
