Scots chippie serves up saltire fish supper that's blue and white to celebrate Scotland at the Euros

A Scots chippie has come up with a novel way to celebrate Scotland making the Euros - by creating a blue and white fish supper.

The Garioch Fish Bar in Inverurie has created the fun version of their ever-popular North Sea Haddock using blue food colouring and white tartare sauce to recreate a Saltire.

Owner Murray Morrison, who has run the Aberdeenshire takeaway for the past 25 years, explained that though they only came up with the idea on Thursday (June 11) night, it's already gone down a storm on social media.

He said: "We are always looking at innovative ideas for the shop and we try different stuff all the time.

"I was in France in '98 with Scotland and then they've never qualified since.

"My son Glen is 22 and he's never experienced them being at a major tournament, I used to go to them all the time and there's been nothing since 1998, so we decided we'd do something special to celebrate the occasion

"I thought, why don't we do a blue Scottish haddock, and then Glen suggested we could add the white tartare sauce to make the Saltire."

Priced at £8, the same price Murray charges for his normal Haddock suppers, the unique offering is made by putting the blue food colouring through the batter coating the North Sea caught haddock.

It's not the first time Murray has had a football-related promo, a keen Aberdeen fan, he joked that back when Ebbe Skovdahl was in charge of the Dons back in 2000, the team had gone something like 10 games without scoring.

Getting fed up, an exasperated Murray offered £1 off a fish supper for every goal Aberdeen scored that weekend, but hilariously the game ended up 0-0.

However, after they scored two goals the following week, the good-natured Chippie owner agreed to honour his pledge, dropping the fish supper price by £2 each.

He sold 10 stone of fish in four hours - just over 400 haddock suppers.

A key part of the community, Murray also hit the headlines recently after he gave away 343 free kids meals to help families who may have been struggling during the recent challenging times., and to give something back during the lockdown.
