Scots chef Nick Nairn says social distancing plans are 'fatal blow' for hospitality firms

Scots telly chef Nick Nairn says Scottish hospitality has received a new blow from the latest government plans.

Nick, who already faced a traumatic lockdown after his Cook School was flooded, said the new social distancing regulations could sound the death knell for some businesses in the trade.

He said: "Everyone in Scottish hospitality planning to open on 26th needs to read @scotgov draft regs on distancing. Released last night they are a potentially fatal blow to many in our beleaguered industry."

"They are currently draft and need intense scrutiny."

Nick, who has been filming this week for BBC 1's Landward, is concerned over how people could achieve the social distancing measures that are proposed while running a successful business.

He was not alone in his fears, as Glasgow based club and pub entrepreneur Donald MacLeod hit out at the new plans, claiming they would put many out of business.

He said: "My heads sore, I can’t keep up ..the latest act of destructive lunacy from Scottish Government.

"New Social Distancing rules for bars, restaurants 3.5m x 1m table size for 6 people, or 2.86, circular table size for 6. Well seen none of them have run a bar."

From Monday, April 26, cafés, pubs and restaurants in Scotland will be allowed to open until 8pm indoors without alcohol, and until 10pm outdoors where alcohol is allowed.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is expected to confirm those rules and offer more details.
