Scots Celebrity Big Brother star speaks out over sex-pest claims

Hardeep Singh Kohli has spoken out over the sex-pest claims which have led to him being dropped by the BBC.

And he says he “apologises unreservedly” to any women he has “intimidated” and hopes to live a life of “great understanding”.

The BBC severed its ties with Kohli, 51, after 16 women came forward to accuse him of sexual and physical violence, harassment and inappropriate behaviour.

The Celebrity Big Brother star tweeted: “I have been reluctant to make a statement regarding the allegations against me.

"This is primarily because I fundamentally believe that every person should have the platform and space to say what they feel needs to be said.

“Any offer of context, explanation or alternative narrative would diminish their words and that is something I did not want to do.

“It is now clear to me that my actions and words made women feel intimidated, undermined and undervalued. For this, I apologise unreservedly and can only hope to live a life of greater understanding.”

In 2009, Kohli was removed from being a reporter on The One Show after complaints about his conduct but he still appeared on Radio 4.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “Hardeep Singh Kohli is not a BBC employee. There are no plans to use him.”

Kohli was accused by actress Lulu Popplewell, 29, of seedy behaviour at last year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Lulu claimed Kohli offered to produce and direct her, and accused him of saying it would
be best if she visited him to write on the show, staying in his bed in Glasgow.

She alleged he said: “If something did happen, well, let’s see.”
