Scots carer 'heartbroken' after yobs smash up her car and spray graffiti leaving disabled mum without transport

A young Scots carer has been left heartbroken after callous yobs vandalised her car, leaving her disabled mum with no transport to get to important hospital appointments.

Kayleigh Watt found her green Vauxhall Adam covered in black spray paint with the back window smashed as she left her flat in Glasgow's Hillington on Monday morning.

The 23-year-old home carer has been forced to take time off work as she relies on her vehicle to travel to work and now has to use public transport to attend her university classes at UWS in Paisley.

Her mum Annmarie McGartland, 46, has chronic neurological illness Dystonia and is currently awaiting brain surgery so relies on Kayleigh to drive her to appointments and to go food shopping for her.

Kayleigh contacted the police and hopes someone saw the vandal strike. The car was parked on Chirnside Place in Hillilngton and she noticed the damage around 8.30am on Monday, October 4.

Kayleigh told the Record: "As I walked to the car park I noticed that my car had been spray painted on with black spray paint and my rear window had been smashed as well, along with a chip to my front windscreen.

"I couldn’t believe my eyes and it took a few minutes for it to kick in what had actually happened to my car.

"I immediately phoned my mum crying to tell her that I wouldn’t be able to take her to her hospital appointment and what had happened to the car, she was in complete shock and disgust.

"I am honestly heartbroken. I’m a home carer and I use my car to get to and from service users homes.

"This incident has made me take time off work as I can’t drive without a back window and it’s not able to be replaced until Saturday."

The forensic science student is now having to pay out more money on travel fares as she waits on the car being fixed.

Mum Annemarie has also been left in the lurch by the cruel incident as she relies on Kayleigh's car to help her with day to day activities and can't walk for long durations without being in pain.

Kayleigh, who works 15 hour shifts on top of her studies, only recently moved to the area and has no idea why vandals targeted her car.

Her neighbour managed to help scrub most of the spray paint off but she will now have to fork out on a large bill for window repairs.

She added: "I’m over the initial shock now but I am still devastated that this happened, people work hard to get nice things in life and there’s people out there who have no care in the world and think they can do what they want without realising the affects it can have on people.

"I’ve been staying at my mums since because I’m too scared to go back incase it happens again.

"I shouldn’t be worried or scared but there’s just so many nasty people in this world you can never predict their actions."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating the report of vandalism to a parked car in the Chirnside Place area of Glasgow. The damage is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Monday, 4 October.

"Enquiries into the matter are at an early stage.”
