Scots care worker Christopher Robin in 'bother' with watchdog after failing to declare drug conviction

A Glasgow care worker who was caught producing herbal cannabis has found himself in bother with a watchdog.

Christopher Robin failed to tell the Scottish Social Services Council that he had been charged with the controlled drug offence in October 2019.

The care home worker was convicted the following month at Glasgow Sheriff Court but failed to notify the regulator.

The SSSC said his behaviour ‘fell short of the standards expected of social services workers’ but that it had been an isolated incident.

Robin, who was working at Greencross Care Home in Cambuslang at the time of the offence, was handed an 18-month warning despite failing to cooperate with the probe.

In a decision notice, the SSSC said: “Social service workers must not behave, while in or outside of work, in a manner which would bring into question their suitability to work in the social services profession.

“You committed a criminal offence by producing a controlled drug, namely herbal cannabis, and have been convicted as a result of your actions.

“Your behaviour demonstrates poor judgement and a clear disregard for the law.

“This behaviour took place while you were employed in the social services sector and as such, by your actions you have failed to uphold the trust and confidence placed in the profession.”

They added: “Additionally, you failed in your duty to inform your professional regulator, the SSSC, that you had been charged and subsequently convicted of a criminal offence.

“Your behaviour falls short of the standards expected of social service workers.

“There is a public interest in maintaining trust and confidence in the social services register and upholding proper standards of behaviour.

“Your behaviour had the potential to damage the reputation of the social services profession and therefore a finding of impairment to your fitness to practise is required.”

Christopher Robin admitted his current impairment and accepted the official warning on November 2.
