Scots care hub named after nurse who was first NHS worker to die of Covid in country

A wing of a care hub has been named after the first NHS worker in Scotland to die from Covid.

District nurse and health care support worker Janice Graham, 58, died in April 2020 in Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock.

Her family said they were “proud and honoured” to see a wing of Greenock Health and Care Centre named after the mother, grandmother and wife.

Described as “totally selfless and caring” Janice, from Greenock, dedicated her career to helping others as a district nurse and health care support worker.

Janice’s son Craig, husband George and sister Margaret Robertson, joined former colleagues for a tour of the new wing. Craig said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed with it all.”

Janice’s other sisters Lillian Renfrew, who lives in Australia, Joan Cooke and Jane Ingram are all keen to visit the wing, while Craig, 40, is looking forward to taking daughter Arya, seven, to visit “gran’s work” along with wife Emma- Louise, 37.

The police officer from Port Glasgow said: “She always joked she would be famous one day, have her name in lights. We’re all comforted knowing that she is famous for how much she cared for people."
