Scots care home workers move into camper vans to protect residents from coronavirus

Staff at a Scottish care home have moved into camper vans in a bid to protect residents from coronavirus.

The Isobel Fraser Care Home in Inverness has been forced to introduce stricter restrictions to protect vulnerable residents.

Workers at the old people's facility agreed to the plan which will remain in place for the duration of the lockdown across Scotland.

Highland Auto Campers donated three vans to give 13 staff members a place to stay as the home goes into extreme lockdown for the next three weeks.

The care home took to social media to say: "Hope everyone is keeping well and safe.

"From tomorrow we are putting tougher restrictions in place.

"We are having 13 staff move into the home for 3 weeks to provide live in care.

"This is to try and prevent the Covid-19 virus getting into the home.

"I would like to thank highland auto campers for letting us hire these three camper vans for three weeks to provide additional accommodation for our staff."

Yesterday Nicola Sturgeon announced that 779 people have now died from  coronavirus  in  Scotland  - an increase of 80  deaths  overnight.

The number of confirmed  cases  has risen to 7,102 up 354 from Wednesday.

Of the confirmed positive cases, 1,799 people are in hospital which is an increase of 51.

New figures will be updated this afternoon.
