Scots care home probed over staff ‘retirement party’ with no masks or distancing

A Scots care home is being probed over a retirement farewell party where staff appeared to ignore social distancing while not wearing masks.

Staff at Westerfield Care Home in Paisley held the celebration for a member of the team which included surprise gifts and balloons.

Video posted by the care home online on Friday December 4 also showed cake and party food laid on for the occasion.

However, some Facebook users voiced concern that Covid guidelines were being breached, saying no social distancing was being adhered to and that staff were pictured without PPE.

Now care home provider Handsale say they are investigating the incident and will take further action if required.

A spokesman for the operator, Handsale, said: “We have been made aware of a retirement farewell that took place in the secure reception are at Westerfield Care Home.

“We are looking into whether this was done in compliance with our COVID-19 policy and procedures and any appropriate action will be taken.”
