Scots can now get their hands on Marmite hummus in the spread's latest unusual flavour pairing

Marmite has been on the wind-up with a number of strange flavour combinations since the ‘love it or hate it’ product first hit the shelves in 1902.

The spread has morphed into its own version of peanut butter and has recently collaborated with Lynx for a unique Marmite scented body spray.

But now Scots are able to get their hands on hummus infused with the spread’s distinctive flavour.

‘Marmite Houmous’ is currently available to buy from Tesco online for £1.50.

A 200g container of the unusual flavour pairing contains chickpeas, tahini sesame seed paste, lemon juice, garlic puree and, of course, a healthy portion of Marmite yeast extract.

And it seems like the bosses behind the spread have been plotting the release of the product since the start of lockdown.

A tweet sent to the firm on March 24 contained a picture of both Marmite and hummus spread on two slices of toast.

Marmite’s social media management retweeted the post along with the caption: “The Marmite combination are flooding in. Marmite and hummus anyone?”

Who knows what is next for the popular yeast extract - perhaps a collaboration with Irn Bru is in the works?
