Scots cage fighter in barefoot dash to catch late night bike raiders at Fife home

Scotland's top UFC fighter caught thieves who stole bikes from outside his house after chasing them in his pyjamas and bare feet.

Stevie Ray heard a commotion outside his Kirkcaldy home shortly before midnight on Thursday.

After realising two of his children’s bikes had been pinched, he grabbed his own and went after them.

Catching the culprits, a man and woman, Stevie said he’d been “close to booting their heads off” but let them go after recovering his property.

Speaking to the Record last night, Stevie, 30, a mixed martial artist in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, said: “The adrenaline was going and I went off on the bike at 100mph and got to them about a minute later.

"I’ve got bad knees but I didn’t in that moment. I just thought, ‘How dare you steal from anyone, not just me’. Especially because it was my kids’ bikes.

"They were not getting away with that.”

Stevie went live on Facebook minutes after the incident to post a video.

He told viewers: “I went to chase them in my bare feet and jammies. Then I remembered my bike was just behind me so I grabbed it.”

Dad-of-four Stevie spotted one thief not far from his house in the town’s Hollybrae area.

He added: “I was shouting, ‘Get off the f*****g bike, get off the f*****g bike now’, while I was chasing her, because it was a lassie.

"She had her hood up, so I hadn’t realised at the time. I still can’t believe I never decked them.

“I should’ve maybe grabbed them and phoned the police so they got done but I let them walk away. I got the bikes and that was the main thing.”

Steven, nicknamed Braveheart, posted another video of him racing after the thieves, believed to be in their 30s, recorded by his Ring security system.

He added: “I recognised one of their faces so hopefully they recognised mine and they never come back.

"I did warn them that I was close to booting their heads off.”
