Scots businessman stranded in Peru in coronavirus lock down hopes Donald Trump's son will get him home

A Scottish businessman stranded in a shamanic retreat in Peru is hoping Donald Trump’s son can help get him home.

Gordon Livingstone, 49, from Motherwell, is one of eight foreigners stuck at the SpiritQuest Shamanic Sanctuary, near Iquitos, in the South American country.

The remote city, on the banks of the Amazon, has been cut off from the rest of the country with boats and flights grounded because of coronavirus.

Gordon, who travelled to the retreat to help them develop the business, said they have been told it could be June 5 before he can get home.

His group includes the daughter of 80s heavy metal band Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider.

The 65-year-old rocker, who starred on the American TV show Celebrity Apprentice with Donald Trump, has been mounting a high-profile campaign in the US media to help get his daughter Cheyenne, 23, home.

Gordon said: “Her dad is trying to arrange a private plane to get her out and we’re hopeful of getting a lift.

“He’s trying to get approval from the Peruvian authorities because the country’s locked down. On Friday night, he was talking to Donald Trump Jr about trying to help.

“But even then, it would just be a flight to Lima, where I’d need to sort out my own flight.

“It’s a gamble. The situation in Peru is far from safe. There’s talk of foreigners being confronted by locals accusing them of bringing the disease here.”

Peru gave tourists 24 hours to leave last week.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has admitted it is “very difficult” getting some Brits out of countries such as Peru.

British travellers stranded there have been asked by the UK Government to pay more than £3000 to be flown home on special flights this weekend.
