Scots boyfriend locked out hotel for terrorising pregnant girlfriend at wedding

A thug boyfriend terrorised his heavily pregnant girlfriend in a drunken rammy at a family wedding.

Jamie McKeeve went so out of control at the bash that hotel staff had to lock him out of the building.

And the 32-year-old trashed his girlfriend's car as it sat parked outside the Busby Hotel, in Clarkston, near Glasgow.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard yesterday he tore the registration plate off the vehicle and broke it into pieces, before leaving it strewn across the ground.

The details emerged when McKeeve appeared in the dock on an undertaking over the events of October 14 this year.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive way, in breach of Section 38(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.

Prosecutor Caitlin O'Hare explained: "The accused began to state to the witness Williams that he wanted to go home.

"At that point the accused was extremely intoxicated.

"The witness Williams was sober, she had driven to the wedding as she is pregnant with the accused's child.

"A short time later, Miss Williams was stopped by a member of staff who asked her if it was her boyfriend who was striking and damaging a car in the car park.

"She went outside and saw the accused next to her car. She observed her registration plate snapped and lying on the ground.

"The accused saw the witness Williams in the car park and started shouting, 'get in the car you fat c***'."

She began to cry and ran back inside the hotel, and staff locked the doors to prevent McKeeve from being able to get inside.

He tried to get inside via another door and began demanding the car keys, but police arrived and he was detained.

Defence solicitor Linzi Galbraith said he normally lived with his girlfriend in Renfrew but had been living with his mum in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, due to bail conditions.

She explained: "He doesn't normally drink alcohol and as a result found himself extremely intoxicated.

"He felt unwell and wanted to go home although his partner didn't want to do so because she was having a good time.

"She is heavily pregnant and is due to give birth in two-weeks' time.

"He has apologised profusely for the derogatory comments he made to his partner.

"He's ashamed."

After hearing he had paid for the damage to the car, and that his girlfriend wants to give their relationship another chance, Sheriff Gillian Craig fined him for the offence.

She fined him £400, reduced from £600 as he admitted his guilt, and placed him on a 12-month Non-Harassment Order.

That sees him being banned from placing her in a state of fear, alarm or distress, or from damaging property in their home.
