Scots boxer Ricky Burns must beat Lee Selby if he wants to keep making "big money"

Ricky Burns’ fight with Lee Selby is a must-win if he wants to keep making “big money”, according to his manager.

Alex Morrison told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser that the Coatbridge three-weight world champion would have to beat the Welshman at the O2 Arena if he wanted to appear on top cards.

The lightweight bout will take place on the undercard of Scot Josh Taylor taking on Regis Prograis on October 26.

Long-term manager Morrison believes it will be a crucial night in the career of Burns, who has been out of action since the win over Scott Cardle at the Manchester Arena in November 2018.

“Ricky is in a great place just now with training,” Morrison said.

“It’s a really big fight for him and if he wants to stay in the big money he has got to win.

“He’s only got a few fights left in him at this point in his career but he’s fit and ready to go.

“If he wants to keep up to the standard he has been fighting at for good money he has got to beat.”
