Scots biggest ticket tout reported to Trading Standards after flogging tickets to unsuspecting teacher

The country’s biggest supertout has been reported to Trading Standards for selling tickets despite a ban on resale.

Scalper Andrew Newman has been caught out after targeting fans of veteran Scots rocker Midge Ure.

He flogged tickets to the Live Aid founder’s gig to fan Florence Morimont for £67 each – despite the fact they were restricted view and had a face value of £28.50.

Newman sold the tickets on secondary site Viagogo, even though there are plenty of tickets still for sale on the primary sale site.

And he ignored terms and conditions that clearly ban resale.

French tutor Florence, 50, only coughed up because, like many of other fans, she was not aware of Viagogo being a secondary site, with huge fees.

She was shocked when the tickets for the gig in Ipswich, which isn’t until next March, arrived in her email inbox with Newman’s name on them – right next to the terms and conditions that point out that secondary buyers won’t be allowed entry.

She said: “When I found out Midge Ure was playing near me, I was pretty excited so I tapped the details into Google and top of the list was Viagogo, so I just clicked through and bought the tickets.

“When they got here, I could see very clearly that the venue has banned resale and they state quite clearly that I won’t get in.

“But when I complained to Viagogo, they refused to refund me. My bank ended up giving me an ex-gratia refund after telling me Viagogo was on their ‘red list’.

“Viagogo and Newman still have my money.

“I’m determined not to let this go and I want Trading Standards to take action because fans need to be protected against people like this.”

Mike Jones, of Midge Ure’s promoter Europa Concerts, said more Government action is needed to shut
the door on touts.

He said: “Until legislation is brought in to regulate the secondary ticketing market, unfortunately we will continue to see instances like this happen.

“We advise all fans to buy directly from the venue’s own box office, never from secondary sites like Viagogo, or unknown accounts on social media.”

Newman, 31, previously admitted using friends and family credit cards to hoover up thousands of tickets, allowing him to make more than £4million from fans.

A Viagogo spokesman said: “The right to resell tickets is governed by the CMA and Viagogo adheres to regulations clearly defined in the court order of 2018.”

After the Record contacted Newman, he withdrew other Midge Ure tickets from sale but refused to comment.
