THOUSANDS of Scots motorists are enjoying much cheaper car insurance than most drivers south of the Border, according to a study.
Researchers for BookMyGarage.com looked at data for the top 60 most populated cities across the UK. They found six Scottish locations in the 10 cheapest areas – and none in the top 10 most expensive cities.
Aberdeen motorists are paying the least, with an average quote of £309.14, while people in Perth took second place, paying out £324.64.
Fourth spot went to Inverness (£339.42) and seventh place to Dundee (£354.28), while Stirling (£373.52) was ninth and Edinburgh (£374.83) came 10th.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Liverpool was found to be the most expensive city for car insurance, with an average cost of £884.51.
It was followed by Manchester (£848.97), Birmingham (£738.67), Bradford (£736.77) and then London (£725.60).
BookMyGarage.com spokeswoman Jessica Potts said: “Location is one of the most important factors determining car insurance costs.
“The majority of claims occur within just five miles of the driver’s home, so residing in areas with higher theft and accident rates impacts premiums.”
The price comparison website has helped more than four million motorists get quotes or MOT, service and repair procedures through its network of over 9000 garages.
And company boss Karen Rotberg added: “We all want to save money on our car insurance but the real winners consider the cost of car ownership as a whole.
“Other annual costs such as MOTs and servicing play their part, and cities where car insurance is relatively cheap can end up being quite expensive after all.”
