Scots beach-goer left red-faced after inflatable sparks false alarm rescue

A Scots beach-goer was left red-faced after her inflatable sparked a false alarm rescue.

The item was spotted off the coast of Longniddry, East Lothian with concerns that there might be someone on it.

Lifeboat teams from North Berwick and Kinghorn and coastguard crews from Fisherrow were all called out, Edinburgh Live reported.

They arrived at the scene shortly after 6.30pm on Friday July 23 and were told that the inflatable had now returned back to the shore.

Luckily, there was nobody on it and it was returned to the embarrassed owner.

North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Teams shared news of the incident in the hope it'll discourage other false alarms of this nature.

They said: "If you are taking and inflatable to the beach please have a rope or a means of securing it from getting blown out to sea. Or better still don’t take them to the beach at all.

"Remember if you see someone or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, cliffs, mud or water. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. If in doubt call."
