Scots bar vows to ban SNP 'voters or members’ as it reopens next week

A Scots pub has been blasted for allegedly saying it will refuse to serve SNP supporters when it reopens next week.

The Caledonian Bar in Forfar has come under fire for a supposed social media post, now deleted, saying there would be 'no admittance' to SNP members or voters when the doors opened again next Wednesday.

The tweet also says those over 70 and care home workers will also be barred due to coronavirus fears.

Screengrabs of the tweet, seen by the Record, read: "Everyone, we plan to open on July 15, and look forward to seeing our customers again.

"In an effort to assist virus control, we will not be admitting those over 70, care home workers without test evidence and there shall be no admittance to any SNP voters or members."

The account, now also deleted, regularly shared anti-SNP messages and jibes about Nicola Sturgeon.

Facebook pages linked to the bar have since been deleted.

Forfar SNP councillor Lynne Devine blasted the tweet as 'ridiculous'.

She said: "It's pretty ridiculous that any business would want to bar any group of people from their premises based on their views.

"He has obviously said it is a joke but you have to wonder why you would post that on your business's social media pages as a joke.

"As an SNP councillor I don't accept this kind of nastiness.

"Generally speaking, people here stay out of politics and get on with each other whatever their views.

"You'd have to wonder if he was planning on asking people at the door as they entered whether they vote SNP.

"I do hope they follow social distancing when they open so there isn't another spike in the virus."

The Caledonian bar has not responded to Daily Record's request for comment.
