Scots author Catherine MacPhail dies as tributes paid

Tributes have been paid following the death of one of Scotland's most popular children's authors.

Catherine MacPhail wrote more than 30 books during an illustrious career, including Another Me, which was adapted into a film starring Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner.

The Greenock -born author's death was announced by her son on her Twitter page.

Her son wrote: "Cathy's son here. We are heartbroken to let you know that our beloved mother passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She would want you to travel through life 1st Class."

Catherine was 75-years-old, with tributes being paid to her from across the whole of Scotland's writing scene.

Scottish Book Trust posted: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the brilliant author Cathy MacPhail. For years, it's been our honour to witness Cathy's impact on young readers, first-hand - something we will all miss.

"Our thoughts are with @DMMacphail1 and the rest of Cathy’s family."

The author also wrote a popular BBC Radio 2 program called My Mammy And Me.

She was also an ambassador for the charity Children 1st, who also paid tribute on social media.

They wrote: "Very saddened to hear of the passing of beloved children’s author and Children 1st ambassador Cathy Macphail.

"Cathy was a brilliant advocate for children’s rights and influenced the lives of many through her work, leaving a lasting legacy. Thoughts go out to friends and family."
