Scots Asda shopper disgusted after biting into 'raw' hot deli chicken from Clydebank store

A Scots man says he was disgusted when he realised cooked chicken he had bought from an Asda deli counter was still 'raw'.

Neil Macphail had purchased hot chicken thighs for his dinner from the Clydebank store at 5pm on Tuesday night.

He paid £1.75 for the four piece chicken pack and took them home to eat.

But it wasn't until he had already eaten part of a chicken thigh that he realised the meat was still raw.

The chicken cost Neil £1.75 (Neil Macphail)

The 35-year-old said: "There was four in the pack and I had almost finished my first piece when I noticed blood near to the bone.

"I then cut through the other ones and saw they were still raw.

"I was disgusted, angry and very worried because I had already ate one of them."

He shared stomach-churning pictures of the chicken thighs with the Record.

Neil, from Erskine, said he felt queasy as the night went on.

He added: "I didn't feel good. I was a wee bit sick before I went to my bed."

Neil said he called customer service department to complain and was told to bring the chicken back to the store to get a refund.

He added: "They said I could get my £1.75 back if I returned it but it's hardly worth my while. My return bus fare would cost more.

"I could have fell seriously ill and all they offer is £1.75. It's a bit of a joke."

An Asda spokesperson: " All of our Hot Counter chicken is temperature checked following the cook cycle, to ensure the product achieves the required core temperature and is cooked thoroughly.

"Although we have had no similar complaints about the Chicken at this store we would encourage Mr Macphail to return the product at his earliest convenience for a full refund.’’
