Scots armed robber who fired gun during post office raid found dead in cell after taking 'Spice'

An armed robber died behind bars after taking the street drug “Spice” and heroin, a sheriff has ruled.

Kevin Sloan, 31, was found lifeless after taking the substances in his cell at Castle Huntly open jail in Perth and Kinross in 2016.

Sloan had been jailed for eight years for firing a shotgun during a post office robbery in East Renfrewshire in 2011.

A fatal accident inquiry at Perth Sheriff Court heard fellow prisoners had known Sloan was taking “legal highs” and had been concerned for his wellbeing.

He had failed to attend educational activities the day before he was found dead.
