Scots animal charity in litter warning after cow in Lanarkshire spotted chewing plastic bottle

A Scottish animal charity have warned locals not to litter near animals, after a cow in a Lanarkshire was spotted trying to eat a plastic bottle.

A resident in Cambuslang snapped the animal while out for a walk near green belt land off Gilbertfield Road.

He told Lanarkshire Live : "It is pretty disgusting that it’s been tossed into the field like that.

"Even if it had been blown in, it’s still been chucked away by someone.

"It's not that hard to put something in a bin. The cow seemed happy playing with it but then it looked like it was trying to eat it."

The SSPCA have now warned that even small plastic items can be dangerous to animals if they swallow them.

SSPCA chief superintendent Mike Flynn told us: "All litter has the potential to harm animals, whether domestic, farm animals or wildlife.

"We would like to remind people to please dispose of their rubbish responsibly.

"Please do not leave plastic bottles or indeed any litter as no matter how small, it can be dangerous or lethal to animals.

"Anyone concerned about the welfare of an animal should contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999. "
