Scots Amazon warehouse evacuated as fire crews race to battle inferno

Fire crews battled a blaze inside the Amazon warehouse in Dunfermline after it broke out on Thursday night.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene on Sandpiper Drive at around 9.30pm amid reports of flames on the second floor.

Three fire appliances, including a special height unit, were sent to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze by 1am.

Police Scotland confirmed they were also called to the scene to support their fire colleagues who received no reports of any casualties.

It is understood that the day shift at the massive fulfillment centre has been cancelled for safety reasons.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “We got a call at 9.31pm to reports of a fire at Amazon warehouse in Dunfermline East Business Park.

“The fire was extinguished using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two thermal cameras.

“Crews were in attendance from Dunfermline and Lochgelly with a height appliance from Kirkcaldy.

“There are no reports of any injuries. The final crew left the scene after making the area safe at 1am.”

An Amazon spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was a fire at our Dunfermline fulfilment centre.

“The safety of our people is our priority and all associates were safely evacuated.”
