Scots actor Dougray Scott says he was 'approached' about playing James Bond

Scots actor Dougray Scott has spoken about how James Bond producers approached him to replace Pierce Brosnan before he lost out to Daniel Craig.

Dougray is all set to star in Irvine Welsh's new drama Crime on Britbox, where he plays the hero, Ray Lennox, an Edinburgh policeman on the trail of a murderer.

And in an interview, he spoke about the parts he never eventually played including the chance to be 007 in Die Another Day - and his refusal to star in Lord of The Rings.

Dougray, who was born in Glenrothes, told The Times newspaper: "They certainly approached me, but at the end of the day all that matters is that Daniel Craig played Bond and he was great.

"I'm not sure if it was ever for me.

"They first talked to me about it five years ago but then Pierce Brosnan wanted another go. Good luck to Daniel."

Dougray has also said he turned down the chance to play Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy but didn't fancy the idea of filming three movies back-to-back in New Zealand.

He said: "They sent (the script) to me. They wanted me to go meet Peter Jackson, but to be honest with you I'd just finished doing 'Mission: Impossible 2' and the idea of spending two years away in New Zealand I just couldn't quite contemplate."
