Scots man dies after horror burn incident in Clydebank eight days ago

A man who was left fighting for his life in hospital after being burned in Clydebank has tragically died, police have confirmed.

Michael McElhinney suffered horrific burns in what was feared to be a revenge acid attack, but police confirmed today that no criminality has been established, although enquiries are continuing.

It is not now believed that acid caused Michael's injuries but what substance burned him has not been established.

Tragically it emerged today that the 26-year-old has not survived the horror incident.

Michael was found at a property on Dunswin Court, Dalmuir on Thursday at 7.20pm on June 4.

Tributes have now poured in online for Michael as heartbroken loved ones shared the devastating news.

His sister Carla shared a touching photo collage and included a heartbreaking poem on sibling loss.

She wrote alongside it :"My life will never be the same. Cannot believe you're not here"

One person added: "Sad news in Clydebank tonight, all my love hugs kisses and prayers to Carla Mcelhinney and and her loved ones on this sad night, world is a cruel place and people are even cruller.

"May you shine bright and fly high Mick, not a nicer kinder and funnier guy to meet and have the privilege of knowing."

Another said: "I am totally gutted you're gone Mick Mcelhinney aka Aunt Michael to me.

"Rest in peace, hope everyone that loved you keeps their head up."

One person wrote: "Michael Mcelhinney. Rest in peace Mick.

"GBNF another taken too soon . Only the good die young .

"Gone but never forgotten. Flyyy high mukka."

Police have confirmed he died on Friday and are continuing investigations into his death.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Enquires are ongoing following the report of a 26-year-old man found injured at a property in Dunswin Court in Clydebank around 7.20pm on Friday, June 4.

“The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he died on Friday, June 11."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 3327 of June 4.
