Scots ace Ross to race the first Brabham BT62 Competition

THIS is the very first Brabham BT62 Competition model off the production line that Scots racer Ross Wylie is going to be lucky enough to drive.

Despite the challenges of the coronavirus crisis, the Australian hypercar maker has been able to build and deliver the endurance racing machine to Horsepower Racing in the UK.

It’s due to be driven by the Dumfriesshire driver and owner/team-mate Paul Bailey in this year’s Britcar Championship, when the season eventually gets under way.

With a 5.4-litre naturally aspirated engine and a dry weight of just 972kg resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 730hp per tonne, the BT62 is capable of setting blistering lap times and guarantees thrills for competitors and spectators alike.

Thoroughbred racing features include a six-speed sequential transmission, chromoly safety cell, carbon fibre body, F1-style carbon brakes and a FIA-compliant chassis.

Wylie worked closely with Brabham Automotive throughout last year to develop the car and has previously said: “With a 700hp V8 engine and superb handling, I can’t wait for the start of the season.”

And what is billed as “the world’s most track-focussed hypercar” will be something of a rare beast, with just 70 slated to be custom-made, with the option for customers to specify a road-legal variant so they can drive to and from the racing circuit.

Mind you, there won’t be many who can afford to buy one, as the BT62 has a price tag around the £1million mark whichever model you choose.
